TESLA
Elon Musk has redirected thousands of AI chips from Tesla to his social media company X, to help boost AI development.
The move could delay Tesla’s AI plans.
Tesla planned to take on $500 million worth of Nvidia H100 chips to boost its AI and robotics capabilities, increasing their inventory from 35,000 to 85,000 by the end of the year.
However, emails obtained by CNBC reveal that many of these chips are heading to X, in particular its AI subsidiary xAI.
12,000 of these chips have been rerouted to X, however Tesla’s factory in Austin, Texas, remains incomplete, limiting their ability to use the GPUs in the first place.
