🚩 MUSK CALLS FOR AI REFEREE
Elon Musk has called for an AI ‘referee’ as a solution for global regulation. He made the comments at the recent summit in Washington, but the question remains, what form could this take?
Musk wants some kind of AI VAR.
Musk probably means a global regulator, but this would require countries to sign up and agree to be regulated by it - which seems unlikely.
People have compared this to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons - the global anti-nuclear weapons agreement signed by almost everyone. Can something similar be achieved in AI?
That depends on how seriously countries are taking AI, and whether or not they want to be regulated. China, for example, may find it more beneficial to regulate itself so it can catch up to Western AI tech, without being hamstrung.
Musk appears to be a strong advocate for regulation of the AI Industry to ensure that companies take actions that are safe and in the interest of the general public, but is this just a pipe dream?
Do you think a global AI referee is a good idea? |

📚 BOOK RECOMMENDATION
The best books to dive deeper and get real insights on artificial intelligence.
How to Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed
Ray Kurzweil delves into the idea of reverse-engineering the human brain to develop intelligent machines. Kurzweil explores the inner workings of the human mind and how they can inform the development of artificial intelligence. The book provides insights into cognitive processes, such as pattern recognition, and discusses the potential for AI to replicate these processes.
❌ AMAZON’S AI DETECTION IS FAILING
And authors are p*ssed!
Many authors are discovering that AI copies of their works are flooding Amazon’s self-publishing online bookstore.
One author, Rory Cellan-Jones, described how after publishing his autobiography, others started popping up, supposed biographies of the author written by somebody else.
Upon reading them, he discovered the content was complete nonsense - a biography that never took place, with stories about his family that were simply made up, along with everything else.
To add insult to injury, Rory actually got an email from Amazon telling him they “thought he’d like this book”. Talk about a bizarre experience!
The book was eventually removed by Amazon, but it’s a game of cat and mouse, with many more slipping through than can be removed.
It’s clear then - Amazon needs to take firmer action on AI books. They recently published guidelines, meaning when you upload a book now, you must state if AI helped produce it.
Amazon’s current AI protection
This is clearly not enough, and it’s time Amazon got smart on this, with actual AI content assessment.
Do better, Amazon!
