MICROSOFT

Microsoft has launched Dragon Copilot, an AI assistant designed to help doctors by listening to clinical visits and generating notes automatically.

It’s powered by Nuance, the voice AI company Microsoft acquired in 2021, and aims to reduce admin work so doctors can spend more time with patients.

What it does:

  • Real-time transcription: Listens to and summarises clinical visits.

  • Task automation: This handles referral letters, after-visit summaries, and documentation.

  • Medical insights: Provides general medical information from trusted sources.

Microsoft says the tool is already making a difference.

According to its own surveys, clinicians using Nuance’s AI reported feeling less burned out, and 93% of patients said their visits improved.

Microsoft isn’t alone in this space.

Google is also developing medical AI tools, including assistants that help identify patient health risks and AI-powered image searches for medical scans.

FDA be watching like a HAWK

While AI could lighten the admin load, it’s not without risks. The FDA has flagged concerns about AI sometimes generating inaccurate medical information.

A study on OpenAI’s Whisper-powered transcription software found that errors do happen, which raises questions about reliability.

Microsoft insists that Dragon Copilot follows strict security and compliance rules to keep AI-generated medical data accurate and safe.

AI helping doctors avoid burnout… now do the rest of us. Please and thank you.
