There are over 100 different kinds of fungi which glow in the dark. It’s not just for show, though.

It's believed these glowing mushrooms are throwing their own little parties to attract insects and grazing animals. Why you ask? They get lured in by the light, pick up some spores, and then wander off, unwittingly helping the fungi spread far and wide.

META

Meta's pivot into AI has taken a new step forward.

Yesterday, they unveiled their next generation of AI chips.

From smarter recommendations to cutting-edge AI research, they're all in. As AI gets more complex, so does the need for power to run it.

That's where Meta's stepping up its game.

Last year, Meta rolled out its very own MTIA v1, a custom-made chip designed to make AI tasks, like suggesting what you might like to see or do next, run smoother and faster.

This chip is just the start of Meta's big plan to make its systems super efficient at handling AI jobs.

In the mix, we've got some key moves by Meta:

  • Launching MTIA v1, a chip designed to make AI recommendations quicker and smarter.

  • Doubling down with a new MTIA chip that's twice as powerful, making sure recommendations are top-notch.

  • Aiming to keep building its own tech to make sure Meta's setup is ready for the AI challenges ahead.

The latest MTIA chip isn't just a small step; it's a giant leap.

It's built to handle more data and do it faster, especially for deciding what content to suggest.

It's about finding the link between speed, memory, and power, and it's already doing its job in Meta's data centres, improving recommendations for users.

One step ahead of everyone

This leap forward shows Meta can handle complex AI without breaking a sweat, outdoing the usual tech like GPUs.

It's a sign that Meta is building a strong, AI-ready foundation.

But the story doesn't end here. Meta's already looking ahead, working on ways to beef up MTIA even more, especially for generative AI tasks.

With Intel hot on Nvidia’s heels already, is Meta the secret dark horse in this race?

Microsoft is updating the Xbox Cloud Gaming interface, bringing the full Xbox dashboard experience to your web browser.

This new interface allows you to join Xbox party chats directly from your browser, simplifying how you connect with friends without needing the Xbox apps.

The updated interface is filled with useful features.

You can manage your Xbox friends, send messages, check profiles and achievements, and view notifications.

Initially, this update is available to Xbox Insiders for testing before it becomes available to all users.

Here’s what you should know

  • The interface reflects the Xbox console's Home screen, making it easy to navigate.

  • You can start a party chat on the web and continue chatting between gaming sessions.

  • Currently, in preview, these features will soon be available to all gamers.

The update also supports smart TVs and Meta’s Quest VR headsets, although the party chat feature isn't ready for TVs just yet.

Is it enough?

Moreover, Microsoft is introducing new game hubs in the Xbox app for Windows, where PC gamers can track their game progress, access add-ons, and get news from game developers.

The latest Xbox console update includes new features such as muting the Discord soundboard (Yes please), monitoring OneDrive game capture storage, and better controls for installing games and apps on Xbox.

Microsoft is fighting an uphill battle to keep gamers interested, after stalling sales of their Series X and S consoles.

Great - can we get some new games now?

Don’t Miss - X used to let Premium users hide their blue checkmarks, but not anymore. Last summer, users could choose whether to show the blue check—a status symbol that faded when it just became a sign you paid for your verification under Elon Musk’s new system. The feature had issues, like scams and harassment, so maybe that’s why X is changing it. Recently, X even started handing out blue checks to users with lots of verified followers, without asking. But now, it looks like hiding the blue check isn't an option, whether users like it or not.
