Ever heard of quantum entanglement? It’s when two particles become interconnected with each other.

Once entangled, the state of one can affect the other, instantly - even if they are on opposite sides of the universe. Even Einstein was left scratching his head on this one.

GOOGLE AI

Google is thinking about adding new paid features to its search engine, using its advanced AI to power them.

This would be a big change because, for the first time, it would mean paying for some parts of Google's search, which has always been free.

This idea comes as Google tries to figure out how to deal with new AI technologies like ChatGPT, which are changing how we search for information online.

The company is looking into adding these AI-powered search options to its premium subscriptions.

This could mean getting to use its Gemini AI assistant in services like Gmail and Docs.

Don’t worry, normal Google isn’t changing

While Google is still working out the details and hasn’t decided when to launch these features, the traditional Google search we all use will stay free, and ads will still show up in search results.

Here’s what’s going on in a nutshell:

  • Considering premium, AI-powered search features as a shift from its usual ad-supported approach.

  • Trying to keep making money from ads while also bringing in new AI tech.

  • Google has a special AI search service for some users, showing it’s moving carefully into AI.

This move signals a big change from Google’s traditional approach of offering everything for free, supported by ads.

With $175 billion from search ads last year Google is at a crossroads on how to use AI without hurting its main money-marker.

Taxing… your search?

Despite the competition, like Microsoft’s Bing which already has AI features, Google remains the top search engine.

But there’s worry about how these AI-generated answers might impact Google’s ad business and traffic to other websites.

In response, Google introduced a premium level to its Google One service, offering more advanced AI chat features.

How AI-powered search might fit these paid services is still being figured out, with no set plans yet.

Google says it’s committed to improving its subscription services with new features, aiming to meet the evolving needs and wants of its users.

I mean we all expected it to happen at SOME point now.

Does this feel like they're taxing your searches?

The Spanish government recently fined 25 fishing boats for not sharing their locations while fishing near Argentina.

This is a big deal because hiding their location often means they're fishing illegally.

This kind of rule-breaking fishing, known as IUU (illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing), makes up about 20% of all fish caught worldwide.

It's a huge problem, costing around $23 billion a year and leading to too many fish being taken from the ocean, endangering species like the bluefin tuna…

But AI could solve it.

Your sushi cravings might be fueling fishy crimes

To tackle this, a group called Global Fishing Watch, with help from Google and others, is using AI and satellites to keep an eye on over 65,000 fishing boats across the globe.

They're looking out for boats that don't use the usual tracking systems, helping us understand and fight against illegal fishing better.

Quick Points:

  • Using AI to track boats worldwide is helping to uncover the full extent of illegal fishing.

  • A cool project by the University of Southampton is using AI underwater robots to listen for illegal fishing sounds, helping protect ocean life.

  • By choosing seafood that's caught in a responsible way, we all can play a part in fighting illegal fishing.

Following this tech-savvy approach, the University of Southampton's team is working on an underwater robot that uses AI to listen for the sounds of illegal fishing.

This cutting-edge project is all about protecting marine areas in real time.

The battle against illegal fishing also involves us, the consumers.

By picking seafood that's responsibly caught, we help decrease the demand for illegally caught fish.

Through technology, global cooperation, and smart consumer choices, the goal is to protect ocean life and ensure there are enough fish for future generations.

Who knew saving the ocean could involve underwater robots with superpowers? Take that, evil fishing boats!
