Google’s AI doctor is better than real doctors according to a new experiment, and an AI influencer failed spectacularly.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
Google’s AI is both better at diagnosing illnesses and politer than human doctors, according to new research which could shake up the healthcare industry.
The new chatbot is based on Google’s LLM and outperformed real doctors in an experiment.
The beginning of the AI healthcare revolution?
The AI chatbot was trained to conduct medical interviews and was rated either as good or better in both conversing with the patient and diagnosing them successfully based on medical history.
It was more accurate than board-certified primary-care physicians in diagnosing respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, as well as other conditions.
Compared with human doctors, it managed to acquire the same amount of information during medical interviews, but crucially also ranked higher on empathy!
A world first
“To our knowledge, this is the first time that a conversational AI system has ever been designed optimally for diagnostic dialogue and taking the clinical history,” says Alan Karthikesalingam, one of the authors.
While the chatbot is still experimental, he believes that this is the future of healthcare, and will democratise it.
Adam Rodman, a physician at Harvard Medical School, sees a more limited role for AI in healthcare:
“Medicine is just so much more than collecting information — it’s all about human relationships,” he says.
Our View:
I’m all for this for diagnosing more basic ailments and lifting the load from doctors, to give them more time on patients that really need it.

AI FAIL
An AI influencer launched to promote Formula E has been canned just three days after huge backlash.
Like a lead balloon
The concept was the brainchild of the Mahindra Formula E team, who created an Instagram account for their influencer “Ava”
On Instagram, the account @avabeyondreality described itself as a "Sustainable Tech Queen & Racing Rebel Robot", with its goal of "fueling inclusion through AI innovation".
However, the backlash was swift, saying they should have just hired a real person and that it doesn’t align with the supposed sustainability message (debatable - but AI uses a lot of juice).
So just three days after announcing the project, the Instagram account was deleted.
"Nurturing diversity, inclusion and innovation is at the heart of Mahindra Racing", said CEO Frederic Bertrand.
"Our AI influencer program was designed with this innovation in mind.
"Your comments hold tremendous value. We have listened, understood and decided to discontinue the project."
Our View:
A swing and a miss. AI influencers are taking off - but maybe this wasn’t the right fit.
