Our planet talks. Yes, you read correctly. Well, not talk as in SPEECH 🥂, more like… hums? It emits a constant hum, a phenomenon detected by seismologists.

This low-frequency vibrational noise is too faint for mere human ears to hear and is believed to be caused by the continuous movement of ocean waves.

TODAY:

  • Amazon and Anthropic sign a huge deal.

  • AI won’t steal your job, it’ll actually employ you.

AMAZON

Amazon has recently finalised a significant $4 billion investment in Anthropic, makers of the Claude chatbot.

This collaboration aims to transform customer experience and business models across various sectors.

This is by leveraging Claude on Amazon Bedrock, combining Anthropic’s AI know-how with Amazon’s cloud.

The power of AWS

With Amazon Web Service (AWS) as its backbone, Anthropic is pushing the envelope in safety research and developing foundational models that promise to revolutionise how businesses innovate with AI.

Here’s a breakdown of it all:

  • Anthropic will use AWS to power future AI advancements, making cutting-edge models accessible via Amazon Berocl.

  • The Claude 3 family introduces AI with unparalleled responsiveness and capabilities, outshining competitors like GPT-4.

  • Industries worldwide are embracing Amazon Bedrock’s AI, with AWS, Anthropic, and Accenture enabling responsible AI use in regulated sectors.

This partnership between Amazon and Anthropic goes beyond advancing AI technologies.

It’s about making these innovations widely accessible and useful across various industries, establishing a new benchmark for AI innovation.

The aim is to unlock the full potential of generative AI, making it a cornerstone for technological transformation across the globe.

Amazon is basically building Alexa 2.0, but hopefully, this one won’t judge you for asking it to play cat videos on repeat.

AI JOB IMPACT

This recent report by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) suggests a big shake-up is coming with AI in the UK job market.

It predicts that AI could take over 59% of tasks currently done by workers, leading to a big change in the job scene.

Here’s a simplified dive into what the experts are saying:

Piers Linney, a tech entrepreneur, points out that AI is going to make business more efficient by doing tasks that humans currently do, which means some jobs, like call centres, might not need humans for about five years.

This isn’t just about simpler jobs; even roles like lawyers and accountants could see changes as AI takes on more routine work.

From writing to customer service

Dr Clare Walsh from the Institute of Analytics adds that while AI taking over repetitive tasks might be a relief for many, it will also impact roles in writing, customer service and accounting.

The key, she suggests, is that AI can handle the mundane, allowing humans to focus on creative and oversight tasks.

Ian West, from KPMG UK and Ian Silvera, a tech editor, highlight the importance of staying adaptable.

They note that while admin-heavy jobs are vulnerable, there’s also a chance for a shift towards higher-quality human-generated services and products.

Repetition could be the key factor

Jobs that are repetitive and don’t require much skill are at risk, but the focus should really be on education and learning how to use these new AI tools effectively.

  • Generative AI will make businesses more productive, potentially reducing the need for human workers in tasks like call centre operations.

  • AI’s automation will extend to creative tasks such as writing and customer service, but human workers and oversight remain irreplaceable.

  • The rise of AI in workplaces underscores the importance of adaptability and the potential shift towards high-quality, human-generated outputs.

The takeaways? AI is set to change the job landscape significantly, affecting not just routine tasks but also roles in knowledge work.

This wave of automation brings challenges but also opportunities for creativity, adaptation, and a move towards higher-quality, human-centric work.

In a nutshell, you can calm down. Bots aren’t going to take your job. Obviously we can’t promise they won’t take over, but we’re sure Hollywood will prepare us for that.
